C2 Writing – A Review of A Hotel – CPE Essay – Writing a Review

You and a friend recently spent time in a resort in an expensive hotel. On returning home, you have decided to post a review of the hotel on a travel website.
You enjoyed much of your stay at the hotel, but found significant problems with cleanliness and the quality of the food on offer. Mention these in your review while also praising the aspects of the visit that you enjoyed.

A very old friend of mine AND I spent a full week in this hotel since we were attending a series of important negotiations in the city concerning the further expansion of the company we run in Austria. Despite the expensive price and high ratings of the hotel, our experience was very mixed to say the least.
First of all, I would start by saying that the staff was genuinely nice and professional during the whole stay. We were given a warm reception whenever we arrived, so I can say NOTHING but the best about the staff. Furthermore, I would like to highlight the fact the hotel is really modern and well equipped. In addition to the numerous services mentioned on the website, the hotel also offers premium clients free entry to all sports facilities in the city, which allowed us to attend a quarter-final at the Roland Garros. I think I would NEVER have gone to a tennis match OF MY OWN BAT, but I really enjoyed it, and it was THE experience of a lifetime.
NOTWITHSTANDING, I have to emphasise the fact that THE HOTEL was not just fun and games.
First, it must be mentioned that my room was terribly dusty, which triggerED my dust allergy. What’s even worse, my bedroom wall was COVERED WITH dead mosquitoes, so it was really gross. I’m sure that a hotel with such A high REPUTATION could have had the walls checked before giving it to a visitor. Finally, I would also like to write about the food served by the hotel. Although it IS true that the desserts and soups were especially tasty, the main courses were downright disastrous. In short, the meat was always way TOO chewy and the quality of the fruit and vegetables also left someTHING to be desired.
All in all, in spite of the positive things, in terms of value for money, I would in no way recommend this hotel to anyone until they are able to pay attention to such basic details as food quality AND cleanliness. But for the great staff, we would have STAYED IN other accommodation and that’s for sure.
