BWC70SS EdgeStar 62 Can Extreme Cool Beverage Refrigerator – FOLLOW UP REVIEW

2 min read

Been one year since owning fridge. Works great. Some things to mention:

1. This unit doesn’t come with a fan to circulate cold air inside. Decided to add a 120mm 12VDC fan inside against the cold plate. It runs off same power supply as LED mod. Its mounted in by sticky puddy and NOT DRILLED INTO COLD PLATE. Puddy holds fan well even when plate gets cold, no issues. Thermostat set to 4 (5 is highest) Compressor will kick on at 43 degrees F and turn off at around 37 degrees F.

2. The compressor within a few weeks of running fridge you will hear it occasionally “thump” when it shuts off but not all the time. Research has found that the internal spring that hold the compressor inside the bell housing is weak and cause it to bounce from centrifugal force of the piston stopping. I’m told by HVAC guys that IT CAN BE perfectly fine and run for years like that or fail the next day. The cost of compressor is the cost of a new fridge. Warranty on parts is only one year. Edgestar would pay for the compressor but you would need to pay labor to have it installed/charged by a local approved technician.***This may be an isolated incident, but I’ve read its a pretty common issue with fridges in general.

Visually its a very appealing fridge, but performance was a bit lacking without some simple mods. Guess you cant expect much from a ~$150 fridge. A fan helped tremendously, highly recommended.

Any comments let me know. I see Edgestar has a service channel on here. Hope they watch this video and make some improvements….
