Fitness Product Review – NMBL XLR8 Percussion Gun

3 min read

Exercise is physical stress on the body; muscles become stronger by contracting to generate force in order to move external resistance.

Mechanical forces applied to muscle and elastic connective tissue creates a response where new satellite cells are produced to repair the damaged tissues. When the satellite cells align properly, muscles can become thicker and capable of generating greater levels of force. However, if a proper post-exercise recovery strategy is not followed, those satellite cells could create adhesions between layers of muscle tissue – those adhesions can restrict joint motion and change the way that the body functions.

Post-workout mobility exercises can help ensure that new muscle cells align properly to repair the damaged tissues; using a percussion gun, like the XLR8 by NIMBL, can help speed up the recovery process by allowing the fibers to be repaired in the most efficient manner possible.

Using percussion gun prior to exercise can potentiate the nervous system so muscle fibers contract more efficiently.

Using a percussion gun post-exercise can help improve circulation to remove metabolic by-product and speed up the repair/recovery process.

This is a test of the NIMBL XLR8 percussion gun; it’s super quiet, has multiple speeds and comes with multiple attachment heads – some help warm-up muscles while others are best used for post-workout recovery.

The XLR8 has a good weight and feel, it’s easy to use, the variable speeds are awesome – lower speed before exercise, faster afterwards (according to the education provided by the company).

The various heads make a huge difference in the impact on the tissues; a little discomfort means that it’s being effective. The battery holds it’s charge for a long time, I’ve been charging it up once/month and it takes a few weeks to run down to 20%.

I used the XLR8 to help train for a recent old boys rugby tournament (at 48 years old) and I use it 3-4 times a week for evening tissue work while wasting time in front of the TV.

The only thing I didn’t like was the size, it’s a little big for a gym bag to take on the road. However, the company is aware of that and has created a travel size – review on that coming soon.

They gave me a code: AAF20 – that will allow you to save 20% on the purchase of the percussion gun (I highly recommend it).
