Tesla’s next-generation Roadster has taken centre stage after a jaw-dropping demonstration in Texas, where the electric sports car launched off a ramp, flipped mid-air and landed using compressed-gas thrusters developed with SpaceX technology.
Elon Musk unveiled the long-awaited vehicle on October 15, 2026, at a SpaceX test site in McGregor, Texas. The demonstration also featured the Roadster leaping over a lineup of cars and a semi-truck. Tesla claims certain versions can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under one second and reach speeds exceeding 230 mph.
“Flying cars are real,” Tesla Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy declared during the event.
Tesla says production is expected to begin in 2028, nearly a decade after the original Roadster concept was unveiled in 2017. But questions remain about the technology, the vehicle’s ability to sustain flight and whether Tesla can meet its production timeline.
