Product Review HO InterMountain Canadian Grain Cars – Old Model Gets an Update!

National Steel Car Company built these 59’, 4550 cubic foot cylindrical covered hoppers between 1972 and 1985. About 20000 of these cars were built for the Canadian government to help Canadian railroads haul grain. These cars were owned or leased by Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, and also supplied to various entities including the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta.

These HO scale model trains have CPWX reporting marks, indicating that they were operated by Canadian Pacific. Cars assigned to Canadian National had CNWX reporting marks.

InterMountain first introduced these HO scale model trains decades ago. Many at that time were released as kits.

InterMountain has continued to improve this HO scale model train over the years. The new cars have photo etched roof walks and many other details, and much improved trucks!

As usual, Dan evaluates the model’s packaging, prototype accuracy, paint & detail, and how well it operates and conforms to applicable standards.

If you’re a fan of covered hoppers, Canadian grain cars, or freight cars in general, be sure to check out this unboxing and product review!
