This is a badly fractured piston crown exposed after the cyndrical tube head was eliminated.
That dark line across the piston is not just carbon or a surface area scratch. The crown itself has split, which can happen after severe getting too hot, detonation, pre-ignition, sustaining troubles, or an additional major burning concern.
As soon as the piston reaches this condition, compression can leak past the broken location and the crack can spread into the ring lands. If items break away, they can rack up the cyndrical tube wall surface, damages the rings, and develop a lot more internal engine damage.
The costly component is what happens following. A problem that may have started with cooling, fueling, or knock can become a $5,000+ engine reconstruct when the piston and cylinder are damaged.
Look terms and subjects covered: cracked piston, piston crown fracture, busted piston, engine detonation damages, overheating piston, piston failing, ring land damage, cylinder racking up, engine rebuild, combustion damage, piston examination, interior engine damages.
