Update on Pope Francis’ Health: His Condition Remains Critical | Sunday, February 23rd, 2025

Pope Francis’ problem “stays important,” the Holy See Press Office says in a declaration issued Sunday evening Rome time. It states he experienced “no additional respiratory dilemma” since Saturday.

The statement additionally says the Holy Father “remains to be alert and well oriented” and proceeds to receive oxygen therapy “at high flows” with his nose.

Considering that his situation is “complicated,” the statement states, the pope’s diagnosis “stays reserved.” His blood platelet matter remained stable, the declaration proceeds, but some blood tests revealed “preliminary, moderate, kidney [kidney] failure” that is currently in control. Today the pope took part in Mass along with those that are caring for him at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, the statement said.
